Good news! We’re reviving the scanlation effort for the Atsushi Souga manga adaptation of Turn A Gundam. This project had been temporarily on hold due to our TL checker getting rather busy in life (along with my own laziness…). However, we’ve recruited a new TL checker to assist us. They’ve asked to stay relatively low-key, but I appreciate their assistance all the same.
This manga is an adaptation of Turn A‘s story by Atsushi Souga. While it shares the same overall plot, it diverges from the anime in many ways. There are 5 volumes in total.
It has been a while since I last shared my Turn A Gundam animation cel collection. I’ve slowly amassed a very sizable selection over the years, including cels from cuts by notable animators. In this post however I’d like to highlight my current collection of cels featuring Dianna Soreil. She’s my favorite character, so when shopping around I tend to prioritize items featuring her.
I recently commissioned some plushies of my favorite character, Dianna Soreil, so I wanted to write a little post highlighting that. They’re so adorable! The artist is Alyssa, whose Etsy shop is called MewniTreasures, and she was a pleasure to work with. I recommend her services if you’re in the market for custom items. She even sent me little stickers as a gift. 😊
On December 30, 2019 Syd Mead passed away at his home in Pasadena, CA at 86 years of age. He was an industrial designer and visual futurist famous for his contributions to films such as Alien, Tron, and Blade Runner. Relevant to this blog, however, is his involvement in Turn A Gundam. He was its primary mechanical designer.
For over a decade I’ve wondered what it’d be like to see director Yoshiyuki Tomino in person. In November of 2019 I was finally able to make this dream a reality. Tomino attended Anime NYC as a Guest of Honor to celebrate the Gundam franchise’s 40th anniversary and to promote the first Reconguista in G film. I made the trip from California to New York for this rare occasion. In this post I’ll briefly reflect on my experience and provide commentary on the Turn A Gundam related question-answers.
